The Crime Scene, the driveway of
the Gwinnco Muffler Shop in Sugar Hill Georgia sits on the west side of
Peachtree Industrial Boulevard or, as it is otherwise known, PIB about one-half
mile south of Georgia Highway 20. A number of drivers passing the muffler shop
driveway on the evening of April 15, 1993, observed what appeared to be two
periods where police activity in that driveway.
Between
8:45 and 9:30 PM, passing motorists observed a police vehicle in what appeared
to be a traffic monitoring position in the driveway with the officer facing out
toward PIB. Around 10 PM, another group of drivers observed a police vehicle
pulled into the driveway behind another dark colored automobile. For a brief
period, that police vehicle had its blue lights turned on as the first few
drivers passed.
Most remarkably,
almost every driver passing the police car in the driveway described the
vehicle as a boxy-type, seen at the here as the Chevrolet police vehicle, as
the sleeker, more aerodynamic type in use by all GCPD officer that night, seen
at the bottom. The one exception was Paul Omodt, and he would be confused by two
police vehicles He saw one police vehicle in the driveway, and another one that
passed his vehicle only seconds later.
