On the night of
the murder, Pat Gimothy was traveling northbound at 9:45 PM on Peachtree
Industrial Boulevard. She was returning from a business meeting that evening.
As she passed the Gwinnco Muffler
Shop, she saw a dark colored car, probably brown, in the driveway. She thought
it might be a law enforcement vehicle, she even thought she saw something
reflecting and slowed down. She stated that the car was in the back of the
driveway near the building with its lights off. She also stated that it was
raining at the time.
This statement was taken by Lt. John
Latty on April 19th. The GCPD had settled on Michael Chapel as their
prime suspect as early as 17 hours after the body was found, and it was in
their interest to have the vehicle in the driveway be a police vehicle. Lt.
Latty guided her statement and wrote it down for her.
Ms. Gimothy was not called to testify
at the trial of Michael Chapel. Lt. Latty is Colonel Latty.
