On leaving the firehouse somewhere between 9:55 and 9:57 PM, Chapel had determined to go to his gym on Moreno St. in downtown Buford to pickup his receipts for the day. At 9:57, he received an assigned call to go to an address on Arden Drive. Since the call seemed routine, Chapel decided to continue on to the gym before answering the call. His route was as shown here in the Buford-Sugar Hill map cutout.

On arrival at the gym, it was still raining heavily since the break in the storm to the south had not yet reached this area. Chapel parked his unit as close to the door of the gym as possible to stay out of the rain. He then ran into the gym, grabbed the bag with the receipts in it, and, barely waving to Van Parker and his girlfriend in the office. returned to his unit and proceeded to the Arden Drive address. He arrived at Arden Drive at 10:07 PM. He had a little trouble locating the street address, and arrived at the call location to answer the call at 10:08 PM.

On the call, he spoke to the lady of the house, Mrs. Perdomo. The problem turned out to be some loud and otherwise irritating youngsters either next door or outside the home. When she described the boys, Chapel, in a fashion typical for him, assured the family that he knew the boys and knew where they played basketball. He told them that he would stop by there the next day and warn the youngsters about their behavior. The called was closed a few minutes after his arrival at 10:11 PM, and Chapel returned to the Northside precinct, directly this time, to close out his shift.

At Trial only Juan Perdomo, the husband, only testified. Probably because of his Asian culture, he made little of his wife’s part in the conversation. Juan Perdomo would testify that Chapel was hurried and nervous during the call. Of course, Danny Porter or another of the prosecutors had interviewed Mr. Perdomo and could very well have planted these suggestions Investigator Jack Burnette however interviewed Mrs. Perdomo, and she remembered that Chapel had been courteous and understanding. Burnette remarked so in his notes.
