This is the original photo lineup as it was scanned into the computer from 2 photocopies. The first was the leftmost 4 photographs, and the second was the remaining 4. They were numbered 1 through 4 along the top and 5 through 8 on the bottom. It is unknown whether the names were included in the lineup when shown to prospective witnesses.

This lineup was rigged to highlight a certain photograph.  First notice the size of the subject in the images. There is one photograph where the subject is larger than the others. Second notice the lighting. In five of the photographs: 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6, the lighting is very low. In 3, 7 and 8 the lighting is better.

Third notice the direction of the lighting. In all but one picture, the lighting is directly from the front. In the exception, the lighting is from the side, the shadows this creates obscures the left side of the subject’s face, which incidentally was the side of the face that was seen in profile by the only credible eyewitness. We are of course talking about photograph number 3, Michael Chapel.

Finally in studying the remaining photographs, the viewer sees that the subject in the lineups that most nearly resembles the subject in the target photograph would be photograph 1. Notice though that subject 1 is the only one in the lineup with a different background. His image is outlined by a door. This makes the subject appear about 7 feet tall, almost the height of that door.
