The crime scene in the Emogene Thompson murder is the most ignored in the history of detective work. There is no record of any police officer or detective even looking casually into or around the victim’s automobile other than the first officer on the scene who taped off the automobile and the crime scene technicians.

There were a number of police officers, detectives and other investigators on the scene, included the District Attorney of Gwinnett County, Danny Porter, seen here on the right of the group gathered at the bottom of the crime scene driveway.

Within a few hours, investigators learned that there had been police activity in the driveway the night before, and as soon as Michael Chapel’s relationship with the victim was discovered, Chapel became the prime suspect.

All further investigation in the case then centered on Chapel, and the victim’s automobile was returned to her son a few weeks later.
